The Ujaama Farmers Collective Supports its Own

Black people have been farming this land from the moment we were forced into slavery in this country. And to have worked the land for so long and so hard, to have it stripped away after it was promised to us, was another blow entirely. So to say our relationship with the land has been complicated is an understatement. But it's always been in our blood. Now, a group of farmers is working to reclaim our connection to farming and has formed the non-profit, the Ujamaa Farmer Collective, with the goal of building equitable access to land for the next generation of farmers. Black Butchers United. A Community Within.

Black Butchers United is a gathering place - in the digital sense. It’s a place for Black people in the meat industry to find resources, get educated and fellowship with each other. Like many others, the meat industry is dominated by typically white, typically male individuals. So to have a community full of Black people to support each other through the ins and outs of their career is a gold mine. With an IG profile, @black_butchers_united, as their primary source of communication, the founders Norman Nesby Jr and Dylan Carasco share a wealth of information with their followers.
