Vernon Carey, Sr. is a hometown guy. Born and raised in Miami, he played football at Northwestern Senior High School, before going on to play in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins for 7 seasons. Following his retirement, Carey returned to Miami to open Green Envy, a neighborhood carryout restaurant with a food truck and a location in Liberty City.
On the menu, Green Envy features a variety of alternatives to the soul food and fast food commonly found in the neighborhood. Foods like salads, rice bowls, wraps and sea moss give residents a selection of fresh options, with lots of vegetarian and vegan choices too. And for those who need a little more regularity, they offer meal preps as well.
Members of the community have been regular visitors and are thrilled to have another option in their very own neighborhood. And it doesn’t hurt that the owner was an NFL star who came back home to make a difference.
